People - Sicarius

Aspendale, whilst not unique for being a relatively frontierish town with a wide mix of civilised races, has the unusual feature of having one of the sparsely scattered half-elven enclaves lying just outside of the town's borders. While not hostile towards each other, Aspendale residents are generally suspicious of the enclave and it's tendancy towards seclusion. Whilst the folk of Aspendale aren't forbidden from entering the enclave, they usually feel unwelcome within it's confines. Indeed, villagers and enclave members can go many years without seeing either group, save for the few who meet to trade where self-suffiency isn't enough.

The seclusion is necessary, the enclave leaders feel, to preserve the remnants of the elvish heritage they hold. From Sicarius' birth, he had been a part of that heritage, the only child of two half-Elves, the unusual whiteness of his hair was approved of by the enclave Elders. Pointing, they claimed, to the maintenance of the Elven bloodline. In addition, Sicarius' intelligence and clarity of thought, as well as his physical grace was praised from a young age. Demonstrating an ability with languages and the divine arts, the enclave's B'Lan priest quickly took him into his tutelage, seeing his thirst for knowledge and wanting to shape it into something stronger. Naturally, this was a great disappointment to the Elder's, all followers of the mythical Elven High King Paralaen Worldwalker. While the good works done by the B'Lanish church kept public criticism to a minimum, Sicarius was seen thereafter as something of a persona non grata by the enclave's chiefs.

Regardless, the blue tabard of the B'Lan priest seemed to suit Sicarius well. He enjoyed teaching the children in the village about what little was known of the Elves that had disappeared so long ago nearly as much as he enjoyed debating what was known with the B'Lanish and Paralaen Worldwalker priests. Whilst raised to be considerate to all and trying to achieve the most good he could, his personal views conflicted constantly with those in power of the enclave. He believed that while preservation of the Elven culture was important, the village itself was slowly being suffocated by the same seclusion. It was frowned on for half-Elves to be seen in town unless strictly necessary and actual socialising and consorting was very much forbidden, if hard to police. This conflict between his views and his elders, as well as their treatment of him as a political mascot lead to a bitter streak developing in him. To quote Sicarius "I like each and every member of the enclave, the enclave as a single entity though is a lumbering, narrow-minded beast too enamoured with the way it once lumbered to see the ravine it is lumbering towards."

As Sicarius nears his age of majority within the enclave, a mere 35 years old, he stands at a height about average for your usual half-elf. His short white hair is an unusual colour that vies for intensity with the blue of his eyes. Due to a wound suffered in his early adventuring career, Sicarius has a matching pair of short thin scars across both his cheeks, the result of an arrow piercing his mouth crossways. Having suddenly found himself thrust into a life of adventuring, Sicarius is usually found in his studded leather armor, a longsword strapped to his back. Over the armor is a royal blue tabard, bearing the stylised Eye of the church of B'Lan. The iron replica of the symbol, when not being used, is bound to his off-hand's forearm by a leather thong.
